"Catechesis for baptism is directed primarily to adults- adult candidates for baptism and parents and godparents of infants who are to be baptized. Preparation for the Baptism of infants...encourages parents to reexamine the meaning which faith has in their lives." National Catechetical Directory
In asking to have your child baptized you are accepting the responsibility of training him/her in the practice of faith. It will be your duty to bring him/her up to keep God's commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and our neighbors. The baptism preparation process for parents offers an excellent opportunity for you to renew and/or deepen your faith, strengthen your commitment to the Church, seriously reflect on the responsibilities of Christian parenting, and come to a better understanding of the sacrament of baptism.
Serving you and your family well is an important priority to us. It is our hope that this process is very fulfilling for you as we work to give you the best experience possible. You may select a date for the celebration of the baptism after the preparation process is completed. Persons who are not registered members of Christ the Good Shepherd and who do not live in the boundaries of our parish will need to obtain a letter of permission signed by their pastor to celebrate baptism at CGS.
Complete Baptism Info Form. Email it and a copy of your child's birth certificate to jcoba@cgscc.church
Your information will be reviewed so we can ensure that we are placing you in this process correctly and that we have all the necessary information to serve you. Please wait for a response from our staff and team members for permission to proceed.

Take the Baptism Preparation classes. See the Baptism Schedule (June 2022-December 2022) for dates, times, and locations. For further information about classes or if you have questions, please contact Deacon Stacy Millsap at smillsap@cgscc.church.
See "Godparent Form for Infant Baptism" (link on this page) for requirements for godparents.
The archdiocese of Galveston-Houston does not require godparents to take classes so godparents are not required to participate in these baptism preparation sessions.
