The Second Family ministry at Christ the Good Shepherd, in partnership with Care Partners, uses our God-given gifts of compassion, love, and grace to offer friendship, support, and practical help to seniors needing assistance in our parish.
Groups of volunteers called “care circles” serve those in need of help, typically seniors or homebound individuals in our parish. Volunteers may provide an occasional meal, a ride to a doctor’s appointment or grocery store, respite for a caregiver, help with an errand or task, or simply a friendly visit and companionship. Volunteers may help with a long term need or a short term need, such as someone in need of a little extra help after surgery.
In other words, care circles are like old fashioned neighbors, pitching in to help when needed and sharing the gift of friendship. Not surprisingly, as friendships develop and relationships deepen, a care circle can become like a “Second Family” and with only bite-sized commitments of time by volunteers, blessings flow both ways.
Please prayerfully consider joining Second Family Ministry. Volunteers meet the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd. If you would like more information about volunteering, or if you need assistance or know of someone who might be helped by this ministry, please contact Anne Shauger at 832-752-3223.
